The kids were licking the envelopes containing their little Spongebob cards and Grandma is getting swamped with heart-shaped candy boxes. It's Valentine's time!
The front porch is too cold for sitting, so everyone will gather in Grandma's living room to take their best chances on finding a piece of chocolate with a center they find tasty.
I've already received a few Valentine cards, one from a nephew that says "Bee Mine" with a smiling bee, and one from a niece with a rabbit on it that says "Some Bunny Loves You." Fun.
Part of the reason we're at Grandma's is to help her celebrate Shut-in Visitation Day, celebrated officially this year on Friday, Feb. 11.
The event coincides with Be Electrific Day, designated each year on Thomas Edison's birthday to promote science and ingenuity. My nephew is walking Grandma's halls coming up with clever ways to make her life easier.
Saturday is President Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Although that should promote honesty, I think Grandma told all the kids that she knew him personally. Of course, I can't really prove otherwise. Besides, I'll let her have some fun, it's a way to celebrate Spunky Old Broads Month.
With the arrival of Valentine's Day on Monday the whole weekend and following week can be turned into a holiday celebration in some way. For example, February is Cherry Month and Cocolate Lovers Month. Find an appropriate candy box filled with chocolate covered cherries and you've covered three holidays in one.
February is also Creative Romance Month. You're kind of on your own here (figuratively, not literally). Good luck, and please don't hurt yourself. And International Flirting Week is Feb. 13-19. Again, good luck coming up with tour own cheesy pick-up lines.
In other heart-related designations, please keep in mind that February is American Heart Month, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week is Feb. 13-19. and Valentine's Day is also Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day as well as National Donor Day. If you really want to show some love toward others, keep that last one in mind.
And please don't forget about the fourth annual Healthy Hearts Wear Red luncheon coming up on Feb. 24 hosted by the Bullitt County Health Department.
I suppose this was my cheesy Valentine's Day gift to Bullitt County. I hope something made you happy. I typed it out of love.
