How I have become a very savvy shopper

-A A +A

By Misty Jackson

I just started couponing during the past year. I saw it on a television show. It’s amazing how much money can be saved by just using coupons and watching the sales. I can usually save up to $50 or $60 dollars each shopping trip. At times I’ve even managed to get items for free.

Each week I buy several newspapers and look up others online. This allows me to get many items at the cheaper price. I go through the weekly sales papers and see which stores are having which sales. Then I go through my coupons and see which ones I have that match the sales items. This is how I usually plan my shopping list.

I’ve got a list of each store I shop at and their coupon policies that way I know exactly how each coupon will work at each store. Some stores have the same items on ale during the same week. I will then compare prices and how my coupons will factor in. the best in the end is the one I go for. It’s very exciting watching exactly how much money I know I will be able to save.

My shopping list contains each item, where I plan on buying it from, each item’s sales price and price factoring in the coupon. Then it’s off to the store I go in hopes that everything will go just as planned.

I carry a small notebook, pen and calculator with me into the store in order to better help me keep track of things.

At the register with a cart full of close to a hundred items is when I feel my heart start to quickly race. Each beep of the register brings the total higher and higher. I take a deep breath as I reach into the coupon folder and retrieve my handful of coupons. I hand them over to the cashier. I’m thankful for coupons. They make it all so much easier. Instead of paying the full amount, the price is usually cut in half. At times I can even save more. No matter how much I end up saving, it’s wonderful just knowing I was able to save something.

If it’s a product I got cheap but won’t use, I’ll give it to a friend or family member who will. It’s nice being able to brighten their day. I just wish I had known about it years ago. It helps us be able to afford the things we need and lets us have fun while doing it. It’s something I look forward to each week.
