MOUNT WASHINGTON - Putting together a dominating second quarter, the Eastside Lady Eagles won a second straight “B’ title in the Bullitt County Girls’ Middle School Tournament again beating arch-rival Mount Washington for the title.

Eastside came into the tournament as the number one seeds.

For the first six minutes, the Lady Eagles and the Lady Generals battled to a draw. Tied at 10, the visiting Eastside team went on a 15-4 run.

That cushion remained throughout the second half and Eastside won the trophy, sponsored by Schmid Funeral Home, the Awards Center and The Pioneer News, by a count of 49-37.

In the first half, Taylor Roby led the inside attack of Eastside with 12 points.

In the second half, it was the free throw shooting of Amber Higdon which prevented Mount Washington from getting any closer than eight points. She scored 14 of her 18 points after intermission. Roby led the scoring with 20 for the Lady Eagles.

For Mount Washington, Kathleen Scott was the leading scorer with 20 points, including 15 after intermission. She was the only double-figure scorer for the Lady Generals.
