Independence remains right to be savored

-A A +A

Our Views

We scream. We fight. We editorialize on these things. But, on this July Fourth holiday, it is time to reflect what a great right we all have to live in this country.

Instead of arguing the political pros and cons of the health care bill, why don’t we think about how lucky we are to have health care at all. Many countries would love to be “forced” to buy health insurance. They would just love health care.

Many people are looking for jobs. That is unfortunate. The national way of life has changed forever. But we need to realize there are still jobs and we have the right to seek them. We are not forced into certain professions, as might be the case elsewhere in the world.

We have so many freedoms - at times, maybe too many. We have so many who don’t know how to handle such freedoms and we must have jails.

It is interesting to see local officials disagree.  But more than just the differences of opinion, it is another point that our country is the best in the world.

On this Independence Day, let us be thankful for the many freedoms we still have today.
