SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Class of 2024 braved the elements to attend their first major school event, the Kindergarten Kickoff, hosted by the Bullitt County Public Schools Family Resource Centers.

Despite heavy thunderstorms and flood warning, a steady crowd visited Paroquet Springs Conference Centre, where new kindergarten students and families met with principals and teachers.

Brooks/Freedom FRC coordinator Sherri Bishop said the annual event remained a fun and successful way to promote education and communications between schools and families.

Door prizes were available, including a new bike won by future Shepherdsville Elementary student Kasey Barton.

The BCPS Family Resource Centers, along with Youth Service Centers for middle and high schools, promote positive educational assistance for students including academic achievement and transition into new schools. They assist with family literacy programs, child care, health and social services and crisis counseling.
