LOUISVILLE -- The Bullitt East Lady Chargers will start play in the 2011 Girls’ Louisville Invitational Tournament on Tuesday of this week when they travel to Bellarmine University’s Knights’ Hall to take on Fern Creek at 8 p.m.
The two schools are located just a few miles apart and have played a number of times in the past, but were not scheduled to play each other this season until the LIT pairings were announced. The last time the two teams met was in December of 2008 when the Lady Chargers won 90-53. A year earlier, Fern Creek had won 70-68 led by Monique Reid who is now playing for the University of Louisville.
This season’s Fern Creek team stands at 9-7 (through last Thursday). The Lady Tigers have a second place finish earlier this season in the Lady Cougar Invitational at Bullitt Central, a tournament in which they defeated the host team by two points in the first round.
Two of the top players for Fern Creek are forward Teonia McCune and guard Asia Grisby.
With a win over Fern Creek, Bullitt East will advance to take on defending state champion Mercy in the next round on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
