HIGHVIEW - After a tough outing the previous night, North Bullitt hoops coach Amber Courtney wasn’t sure what kind of performance she would get on Friday.

With leading scorer Savannah Morrison out against Waggener with an illness and only available for limited minutes against Moore, Courtney said she was confident that her Lady Eagles would rise to the occasion.

And, they did.

The visiting Lady Eagles fought off an athletic Moore Mustang team en route to a 52-43 victory. The win was an important district triumph.

“Our defense keys our offense,” said Courtney. “It was true tonight.”

With Katie Downey running the offense in the absence of Morrison, North Bullitt got free for a lot of easy baskets early in the contest as Caitlin Montgomery got free for a trio of early layups off the break.

Getting contributions from each of her players, Courtney watched as defensive playand hitting the boards were the key to victory.

Whenever Moore would cut the lead to single digits, North Bullitt would answer.

In the second half, it was Reba Stice who led the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

But there was plenty of praise to go around.

“Hunter Roeder came in and gave us a lot of energy and defense,” said Courtney. “Everyone we played, contributed.”

Although Savannah Morrison played only a few stretches, they were productive. She scored five points in a 15-second stretch in the second period and put another four on the boards late in the fourth quarter.

“I didn’t want to play her at all but I needed a few minutes,” said Courtney. “The rest of the team rallied tonight and played really well.”

To show her confidence, Courtney substituted liberally all night, including having an entire team of substitutes on the floor with the game still in jeopardy.

“I have confidence in them,” said Courtney, whose team went to 14-7. “We will need all of them to play big minutes at some point in the season.”

Stice led the Lady Eagles with 13 points and Montgomery had 10.
