Local wineries earn top honors in competition

 LOUISVILLE - Continuing a standard of excellence over the past five years, Bullitt County wineries dominated the 2012 Kentucky State Fair Commercial Wine Competition.

The four local wineries earned over half of the 101 medals awarded at this year’s event. They include Brooks Hill Winery in Brooks, Forest Edge Winery in Clermont, MillaNova Winery in Mount Washington and Wight-Meyer Vineyard and Winery in Cedar Grove.

Bullitt County also took half of the gold awards presented at the 2012 competition, with Wight-Meyer earning a Concordance Gold, or double gold, for its Diamond.

Forest Edge earned gold for its Riesling, while MillaNova took a gold for its Mint Julia.

Wight-Meyer collected 15 medals, including 11 silver and three bronze.

MillaNova racked up 14 medals, with 10 silver and three bronze.

Forest Edge tied for third with 12 medals, including five silver and six bronze.

Brooks Hill took three silver and eight bronze for a total of 11 overall medals.
