On 9/11, it gave new meaning to “home” land security.

The Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Shepherdsville hosted a free cookout lunch for all Bullitt County police, fire and emergency crews.

Store manager Kerry Self said Lowe’s employees wanted to recognize the local heroes for their everyday services.

“Our employees are connected with this community,” said Self. “They decided to invite them in for lunch.”

Employees collected all the food, along with some donated gift items for raffles.

“Everybody jumped on board and wen all out,” Self said. “(9/11) is a tough day, but it’s a great day to show our appreciation.”
