MOUNT WASHINGTON - A fatal shooting in Mount Washington could be the result of an attempted murder/suicide.
Emergency units were called to the scene before 5 p.m. at a residence in the 300 block of Choctaw Court, located in the Cedar Ridge Estates subdivision off of Waterford Road.
Christoper Heidenreich Jr., 36, was pronounced dead at the scene due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to Bullitt County Chief Deputy Danny Thompson.
Heidenreich's stepson, 15, whose name has not been released, was shot twice and transported via Stat Care to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries including a life-threatening gunshot head wound and a shot to the back.
Thompson said the victim's condition remained very critical Thursday morning.
According to Thompson, Heidenreich first shot his stepson, then turned the 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic weapon on himself.
Thompson said the shooter's biological son, 6, found the father and contacted neighbors who called 911.
Heidenreich was found in the hallway and the stepson was found in his bedroom. It was unknown exactly when the shootings occurred.
Thompson said the mother was not at home when the incident happened. She later arrived and told police that her husband and son had past disagreements.
However, she said the two had been in counseling and she thought their relationship had improved. She wasn't sure if they had a disagreement earlier that day.
"We still believe there was some type of argument between the stepfather and stepson," Thompson said Thursday morning.
The victim is a sophomore at Bullitt East High School where he is a member of the golf team.
Bullitt County Sheriffs, Bullitt County EMS, Mount Washington Police and Mount Washington Fire units all responded to the scene, along with the Bullitt County coroner.
