Seems we can't get rid of old man winter here across the Kentuckiana region. The month of February usually is interesting (weatherwise) for Kentucky as some of the bigger snowfalls.. sometime occur during the month.
This coming week looks like a very active week for portions of the Ohio Valley region as we track several weather systems that could impact the Bullitt County area starting tonight and on into next week. We are monitoring a system that will be coming up from Arkansas today.. spreading moisture northeastward over time. This system will spread light snow across Bullitt County later on tonight with snowfall accumulations of 1-2 inches possible.
If heavier snow bands set up across the area, then some folks could see amounts closer to 3 inches. With that said, the National Weather Service has issued a "Winter Weather Advisory" for the Bullitt County area starting at 7:00 PM tonight and continuing on into Saturday morning. Snow is expected to start later on tonight and continue through the overnight period. Area roads will become slick later on tonight and we urge you to use caution if you have to be out tonight.
Another weather system will move into the state starting sometime Sunday night on into Monday. This system appears to be weak and snowfall amounts (according to latest model data) appears to be less than 1 inch.
Behind this system, Arctic air will pour into the state setting us up for a very cold week ahead. Daytime highs will struggle to reach the upper 20's.. while overnight lows drop into the teens and single digits state wide. With Arctic air in place, we once again focus on what could be a major winter storm for us starting sometime Wednesday.
If we already didn't have enough snow to worry about, our next system coming in by the middle of next week bears watching as some areas could see snowfall amounts greater than 4 inches.
Some early model runs are adding more moisture with this pending system and latest forecating trends have shown snowfall accumualtions of 6-12 inches with this system.
Now.. before we all head off to Lowe's for supplies, I would encourage everyone to monitor your local weather for more updates on this system. The track of this storm will make all the difference in the world as to who sees 1 inch and who see 12 inches.
We will continue to monitor this pending winter storm and have more udpates here on the Pioneer News website.
Everyone stay safe and keep in mind that we have 44 days until Spring arrives !!
