More Snow.. but turning Warmer...

It seems everyone that I meet up with out on the street.. wants to talk about our next weather system that is forecast to move into the area Wednesday and Thursday.  Early weather rumors a few weeks ago, had us getting a whopper of a snow storm.  I could sense a mild "panic" setting in.  Before we get too excited or upset, let's look as some data this morning as to what we could expect here in Bullitt County.

Early model runs this week have been in good agreement with this pending storm system for Wednesday/Thursday.

The first graphic shows the NAM model run for the 57 hour time period.  As we can see in this image, the brunt of the winter storm is across Arkansas.. while a off branch of light precipitation stretches into far western Kentucky.

The second graphic is also the NAM model run, but this one is for the 63 hour time period.  We notice that the system flattens out and spreads more moisture into Kentucky.  The darker blue band that is located in southern Kentucky.. depicts the area for the heaviest snowfall.. while lighter amounts remain to the north.

One can not go by just these models alone, but I give them as examples as to my thinking on what this system is projected to do.   Right now, it appears that the heaviest snow with this system will stay well to our south across the southern portion of the state.. with lighter amounts in the north.   Areas along and south of the Western and Bluegrass Parkways, look to see the heaviest snowfall.   Areas north of both mentioned parkways, will see less amounts.

National Weather Service forecasters are not going out on the limb right now on snowfall accumulations.. but for information purposes here.. I will.

It looks (right now) that areas south of the Parkways.. will be more into the 2-4 inch snowfall range.. while areas north of the Parkways will be closer to a 1-3 inch snowfall.

Again, let me stress a few things this morning.

1.  This is model run and it's a computer telling me what could happen.  A slight shift in track with this system could bring more or less snow into our area.

2.  Snow Banding.   Just where the heavy snow banding takes place makes all the difference in the world as to whom sees the greatest snowfall out of this system.

So.. with all that said, I would prepare for snow starting sometime Wednesday and Thursday of this week.   Once we get this system out of our hair, we can finally relax a little and enjoy some warmer air that is forecast to move into the state by the weekend.   If model runs hold true for next week, some areas across the state could see temperatures in the 60's !!
