MOUNT WASHINGTON - Mount Washington’s Mountain City Cruisers Car Club is making Christmas a little brighter for families in need this holiday season.
For the fourth year in a row, the Mountain City Cruisers recently participated in the Peoples Bank Mount Washington’s annual Pick-A-Tree Star program, which rallies community support to collect clothing and toys for local students who might otherwise receive nothing for Christmas.
“It’s our way of giving back to the community,” said car club member Ernie Jones.
In addition to providing Christmas gifts for more than 20 individual kids, car club members collected over 125 toys for the Pick-A-Tree Star program from local residents during the Mountain City Cruisers annual Toy Cruise, sponsored in part by Valu Market, which hosted the recent car show and toy drive.
While Pick-A-Tree Star is one of the Mountain City Cruisers’ biggest annual philanthropies, the club gives to several local initiatives throughout the year, including Mount Washington Community Ministries and Bullitt East High School’s Project graduation.
These initiatives are primarily funded with proceeds from car shows held during Mount Washington’s spring and fall festivals.
The club’s primary sponsors, Schmid Funeral Home and Better Built Homes, are among the many local businesses that also make giving possible.
“We couldn’t do it if it weren’t for our members, the community and all the businesses that do so much year-round,” Jones said.
