MOUNT WASHINGTON - The alleged events happened back in the 1990s and the victim has now come forward.

Lt. Mike Murdoch, spokesman for the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, said that is not uncommon, especially if the victim and the suspect are family.

The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office has charged Gregory Halbauer, 55, of Mount Washington, with two counts of sexual abuse and sodomy and one count of rape.

The charges revolve around allegations that from the 1990s through 2000, Halbauer had inappropriate contact with a minor. The incidents began when the victim was 11 years old.

Murdoch said the victim called Det. Scotty McGaha recently and that led to the investigation and subsequent charges.

The concern, according to Murdoch, is that there may be more victims.

He encouraged anyone who might have similar incidents against Halbauer to call the sheriff's office at 543-2514.

The spokesman was not sure where the incidents allegedly occurred but felt it was in the Mount Washington area.

Halbauer was apprehended Wednesday by U.S. Marshal's Office in a home off Greenwood Road in southern Jefferson County. Murdoch said the suspect fled from federal agents attempting to make an arrest. He was taken into custody inside the home.

He is currently housed in the Bullitt County Detention Center. The most serious charges are Class A felonies, punishable by 20 years to life in prison.

A cash bond of $200,000 has been set. His probable cause hearing is set for Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Bullitt District Court.
