SHEPHERDSVILLE -- In what may appear to be a rebuilding year for some local tennis teams, competitors took to the courts last week despite some trying weather conditions. Just don't try to tell the Bullitt East boys that there is any rebuilding to do.
Bullitt East boys had the opportunity to face both of their county rivals last week on the road. And both results in 4-1 victories for the Chargers.
On Wednesday, the team played North Bullitt, which is playing its home matches at Overdale Elementary this season.
In court one singles, Zach Marlett defeated North Bullitt's Matteo Bedendo 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
The second and third court of singles were forfeited by North Bullitt.
On the lone court of doubles, North Bullitt's duo of Carter Campbell and Matthew Faith defeated Will Brown and Phillip Burress 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9).
On Wednesday, the new courts at Bullitt Central featured a visit from Bullitt East.
Coach Dustin Armstrong's team won that match by a 4-1 count.
At first court singles, Hunter Norris defeated Cougar Chase Craddock 6-0, 6-1. On court two, Jacob Staples defeated Bullitt Central's Jacob Calvert 6-1, 6-1.
Bullitt Central collected its lone victory on court three singles as Alex Price defeated Nick Starkey 8-4.
In doubles action, Burress and Dylan Hooper defeated Alex Cromer and Cody McCubbins 6-2, 6-1. On court two, Chargers Brown and Marlett teamed to defeat Ian Anderson and Kelsin Kimble 6-2, 6-0.
The Chargers then took on their foes from Spencer County on Thursday.
Norris easily won 6-0, 6-2 over James Mouser on court one singles. Staples was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Daniel Cooper on court two. The third-court singles victory went to Starkey, who defeated Tyler Tackett 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Burress and Marlett teamed to defeat Clay Abell and Nick Dysinger 6-3, 6-3. On court two, Brown and Dylan Hopper defeated Isaiah Barmore and Sebastian Tackett 6-3, 6-1.
The North Bullitt girls lost its first two matches of the year.
Coach Shane Cunningham's team lost to Spencer County 3-2 on March 13.
Lauren Henderson of Spencer County won court one singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Myrissa Druien. On court two, Raven Thomas fell to Lady Bearcat L. Tackett 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
The Lady Eagles picked up a win on court three singles as Megan Irvin defeated K. Kersey 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, the Spencer duo of Lindsay Roy and Lauren Roy turned back Kess Ballard and Lexie Vanmeter 6-2, 6-0. But, on court two, North Bullitt's Katie Irvin and Jessica Duncan defeated S. Hughes and J. Jenkins 6-0, 6-0.
On March 20, North Bullitt went to Shepherdsville to try out the new courts of Bullitt Central.
The Lady Cougars came away with a 4-1 victory.
Bullitt Central's Amy Docter defeated Druien by a score of 6-4, 6-1. On court two, Ballard defeated Megan Terry in a close 7-5, 6-4 battle. The Lady Cougars won court three with Rebecca Price defeating Vanmeter 7-5, 6-4 in another close match.
In doubles, it was all Bullitt Central.
The court one duo of Amy Gossett and Amber Wolf defeated Megan Irvin and Katie Irvine 6-2, 6-1. And Jackie Kruer and Bailey Hobbs defeated Duncan and Jamie Shelton 6-1, 6-0.
The Bullitt Central boys, coached by Michael Taylor, are 1-3 on the season.
The victory came on March 18 when the Cougars defeated Valley 2-0.
Price won at court one singles 6-1, 6-0 over Collin Grant.
The other court was doubles as Anderson and Craddock defeated Lamont Streater and Chris Dehham 6-0, 6-2.
Facing some regional foes, Bullitt Central lost all five courts against perennial power Franklin County on March 13.
Price fell on court one to Cameron Smith, while Anderson lost to Stephen Ignat and Ryan Roby fell to Abhi Pharanipragada. In doubles, Carlos Chavez and Craddock lost on court one and Alex Cromer and Cody McCubbins lost on court two.
On March 14, Bullitt Central lost a tough 3-2 match to Spencer County.
In singles, Spencer County's James Mouser outlasted Calvert 6-1, 6-2. But Craddock defeated Daniel Cooper 6-0, 6-0 on court two and Price defeated Jacob Coke 6-1, 6-0 on court three.
In doubles, Spencer County swept the two deciding courts.
Cromer and McCubbins lost on court one to Nick Dysinger and Clay Able, while Anderson and Roby fell to Isaiah Barmore and Sabastian Tackett in a three-setter, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.
