Special to The Pioneer News

The North Bullitt Men and Lady Bowling Teams and the Coaching Staff would like to congratulate Shari Klosterman, the ladies coach, for receiving the “2011 Coach of the Year “  honor from the greater Louisville (including Bullitt County) High School Bowling Association.

Shari, just recently married to Eddie Klosterman, resides in Oldham County, has a full time job with the Louisville Metro Housing Authority and has one daughter Ashley (who attended North Bullitt) and a granddaughter Cailyn.

She has been the coach of the Lady Bowling Eagles for eight years, starting in the 2003-2004 season. She is a highly qualified coach, having a Level 2 coaching degree.

She started bowling at the age of 8 and throughout her adulthood she has bowled in many prominent tournaments all over the United States.

She has reached several personal goals by winning some tournaments and finishing well in others (she won the Women’s Kentucky Open in 1995). She has bowled a perfect game, 300.

She was inducted into the Louisville Women Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001.

She has followed in her mom’s footsteps of coaching young bowlers and therefore decided to take on the coaching job at North Bullitt.

Over the years, Shari has often said how much she enjoys coaching and teaching the lady bowlers from North Bullitt.

Her own daughter Ashley, while attending North Bullitt, was a member of the bowling team for three years and that was very special for Shari. Shari’s teams have bowled their way to numerous regular season district championships and district tournament championships.

They won the regional tournament last year and finished second this year. They have competed at the state tournament five times during Shari’s eight-year coaching tenure.

The girls won the state title in 2009, owning 1 of 2 banners in North Bullitt’s athletic history.

The girls headed to the State Tournament on March 19 in Lexington by way of winning their regular season, winning the district tournament and finishing 2nd in the regional.

Shari has volunteered her time, energy and expertise to North Bullitt bowling and has enjoyed every minute of every season (which runs from September through March). Shari plans to coach a few more years and is looking forward to high school bowling becoming a sanctioned sport through the KHSAA starting next season, fall of 2011. Shari is most proud of the fact that several of her girls graduating from North Bullitt have gone on to bowl at the collegiate level, a wonderful accomplishment!

Congratulations to this outstanding lady and best wishes for many more successful bowling seasons at North Bullitt.
