Friday Night Lights!

HEBRON ESTATES – For the only time during the regular season, there will be just one football game this week as both Bullitt Central (3-0) and Bullitt East (1-2) take the week off before resuming action on Sept. 15.

The team that will be playing on Friday, North Bullitt, will be playing at home as the Eagles try to bounce back from a difficult 40-25 loss last Thursday to Jeffersontown, a game in which the green and gold led 19-6 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

North Bullitt will be playing host to Class 4-A Shelby County, a team that the Eagles have played nine times over the past 10 seasons (the two teams did not play in 2009). The Rockets hold a 5-4 edge as they have won the past three meetings, including a 48-23 victory a year ago, a season in which both teams reached their regional championship game, North Bullitt in Class 5-A and Shelby County in Class 4-A.

In Adam Billings’ first two campaigns as the North Bullitt head coach, the Eagles have started those seasons 7-1 and 8-1. Both of those losses came to the Rockets.

Shelby County finished 11-2 last season and started this season with a 49-12 victory over Fairdale in the King of the Bluegrass Bowl and then got past Atherton 48-23. That winning streak came to a soggy end last Friday (the game in Shelbyville was not moved to Thursday) as Meade County rolled past the Rockets 58-13.

The key players for the Rockets are a pair of seniors. The quarterback is Collin O’Hare while the top running threat is Caleb Morehead. In the season opening game against Fairdale, Morehead carried the ball 17 times for 226 yards and two touchdowns.

Game time at North Bullitt on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m.
