SHEPHERDSVILLE - A family-owned business that began in Chicago now hopes to paint the small town of Shepherdsville.

Nu-Coat Painting now services Bullitt County and surrounding areas thanks to co-owners Preston and Brandi Poling.

The Shepherdsville couple decided to go into business together, carrying on a tradition that began with Preston’s grandfather.

Brandi is a Bullitt County native; Preston grew up near Chicago in Waukegan. His grandfather, Cap Poling, opened Nu-Coat in 1985, serving Chicagoland until his retirement in 2003.

Preston, a former Jefferson County Corrections officer, decided to restart the family business partly to honor his grandfather, Cap Poling.

“I did it full-time, and then even on the side when I was doing other work,” he said. “There’s a picture of me at five years old with a six-foot spray gun. I like the fact that I just didn’t let it go.”

Nu-Coat remains family-owned and operated in Shepherdsville, Preston’s adopted home.

“I wanted to start here,” he said. “I wanted to hire locally. I wanted to emphasize the Bullitt County area.”

Nu-Coat features residential, business and commercial work, offering complete repainting or new painting services. The company features Sherwin-Williams premium paints.

Preston mentioned that Nu-Coat also featured painting-related services such as wall repair.

Nu-Coat offers customers free job estimates and free color consultation. They strive to meet their company motto, “Professional results for every budget!”

Preston said the family-owned business will do its best to honor his family who first created the business when he was a small child.

“We strive to maintain the good name that we have earned for three generations.” he said.
