SHEPHERDSVILLE — Dylan Baker took his place behind center as the Mount Washington Colts were clinging to a one touchdown lead in the Little Bullitts championship game for the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football and Cheerleading League.
With regular quarterback Eli Burkhead on the sidelines for a play, Baker took advantage.
Running behind the big linemen, Baker appeared to be stopped. And, then suddenly, he appeared out of the pack en route to a 50-yard touchdown.
That clinched the 12-0 shutout victory over the Shepherdsville Titans.
Mount Washington successfully defended its Little Bullitts title from the previous year.
As is often the case in Little Bullitts battles, the defenses from each team ruled the afternoon.
The first Colt touchdown came at the conclusion of a five-play, 18-yard drive.
With 6 minutes remaining in the first half, Burkhead scored from the 3-yard-line for the 6-0 lead, which held up at intermission.
The only other score came on the second play of the third quarter. That’s when Baker took the ball and ran 50 yards for the touchdown with 6:49 remaining in the third quarter.
The Titans could get no closer than the Colt 14 in the second half.
Statistically, Baker was the leading rusher with his 50-yard touchdown. Burkhead collected 17 yards on a busy afternoon and a touchdown.
Defensively, Cole Unser led the way with four tackles, while Drew Palmer had three. Jordan Pound, Landon Exley, Luke Lamarre and Burkhead. Burkhed, Pound, Exley and Lamarre each had a fumble recovery and Burkhead intercepted a pass.
