MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The mother of a 4-year-old girl is taking some heat for the way she allegedly chose to discipline her child.

Brittany Herbst, 23, of Mount Washington, has been charged with criminal abuse.

Also charged is her boyfriend, James Ford, 29.

According to the warrant which led to her arrest on Wednesday,  Herbst allegedly helped boyfriend force feed her 4 year-old daughter hot sauce and vinegar between June 18, 2013, and May 1, 2014, on “multiple occasions.”

Herbst also admitted to putting soap in the child’s mouth when she said a “bad word.”

Herbst was picked up on the warrant by the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office. She is currently out on bond from the Bullitt County Detention Center.

A probable cause hearing is set for Aug. 19 at 10 a.m.

Ford was arrested on July 19 by Louisville Metro Police.

According to the warrant, the child had to be taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital for a “head abrasion” in May.

Mount Washington officer Dan Kelty interviewed Ford, who admitted to “force feeding the child vinegar and hot sauce” and stated Herbst “was involved.”

He is expected in Bullitt County District Court for his arraignment on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

If convicted, first-degree criminal abuse is a C felony, punishable for 5 but no more than 10 years in prison.

The Mount Washington police department is investigating.
