MOUNT WASHINGTON – It appears that a U.S. Postal carrier was looking to make more than his normal deliveries on Friday.

According to Lt. Mike Murdoch of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph D. Mueller of Mount Washington was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and marijuana.

Murdoch said that on Friday, Mueller arrived at a meeting with an informant for the sheriff’s High Intensity Drug Enforcement Unit to purchase oxycontin. While driving a vehicle marked with US Mail, Mueller and a passenger, Kayla Jones, 21, were detained by HIDE unit detectives.

Mueller gave his consent to search the vehicle and detectives found marijuana and a pipe between pieces of U.S. mail.

Mueller is employed as a postal carrier working out of the Mount Washington facility and he was operating a vehicle with U.S. Mail markings at the time of the arrest.

Mueller, who is out on bond, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones, who remains in the Bullitt County Detention Center, has been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
