BERNHEIM AT NIGHT: FULL "THUNDER" MOON NIGHT HIKE: Friday, July 18

Late summer and early fall are among the best times of the year for after dark walks through the landscapes of Bernheim and exploration of the night sky. So that you can walk without the aid of flashlights, walks keep to open trails and fields. Night time at Bernheim is a special time. We normally close at sundown, so the night light and "night life" provide you with a different experience when you participate in one of our special night time programs! Please dress according to the weather and call 502-955-8512 between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. on the day of the program to find out about last minute changes due to the weather.

TIME:9:00 - 10:30 p.m.;

PLACE: Garden Pavilion

FEE: $7 members; $10 non-members; advance registration required.

PURPLE MARTINS: COMING IN FOR THE EVENING - Larry Melcher, Bernheim Volunteer: Saturday, July 19

As the nesting season for Purple Martins draws to a close, colony sites get very active in the evenings just before sundown. Parents and recently fledged young return to the colony for the evening to roost. This is the time of day when you see the most martins at a colony. Take your chance to get a closer look at Bernheim's growing colony at Lake Nevin.

TIME: 8:00 - 8:45 p.m.

PLACE: Meet at the Garden Pavilion

FEE: Free, no advance registration required

CENTRAL KENTUCKY KNAP-IN AND PRIMITIVE ARTS FESTIVAL: Saturday, July 19 - Sunday, July 20

Native Americans once thrived in the area now called Bernheim. They were strongly connected to the natural world. On this weekend you can learn about some of the ways that they used "the gifts of nature" in their daily lives. Demonstrations on the grounds across from the Visitor Center are free. Stop by to see and learn about these fascinating skills.

TIME: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. both days

PLACE: Visitor Center

FEE: Free, no advance registration required

Bernheim's gate is open every day 7 a.m. until sunset, except December 25 and January 1. Admission to the park is always free for members and free for all every weekday. Weekend and holiday admission is $5 per vehicle for the public.
