Quilt show at Paroquet Springs

-A A +A

The Bluegrass Quilt Festival wins Blue Ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair for third year in a row for their opportunity quilt!

Pam Heyna and Jo Ann Jeffries were both thrilled to see their version of Edyta Sitar’s “On Eagle’s Wings” quilt hanging proudly in the glass showcase this year at the Kentucky State Fair.

Both women, who are the board that makes up the Bluegrass Quilt Festival, (September 26-28, 2013) made the quilt as a fundraiser to support the show.

The queen-sized, blue-ribbon winning quilt can boast over 3,33 pieces, and will be on display at the Festival where opportunity shares for a dollar will be sold.

The new quilt owner will be drawn at end of show Saturday, Sept 28. As with the prior two years’ opportunity quilts, the State Fair ribbon will go with quilt to the lucky new home.

Beside the Opportunity quilt, visitors of the Bluegrass Quilt Festival will have the eye candy of a judged quilt show and well over twenty vendors.

Quilting, a skill and art once born out of frugality and necessity, has made a spectacular resurgence.

Multiple generations are now behind their sewing machines , piecing together personal expressions of color, comfort and design.

This will be seen at the festival, with entries coming from all ages. In the children’s block challenge, there are beginners as young as 4 years old.

International quilt instructors will also be at the festival, and their classes may be found at the website, www.bluegrassquiltfestival.com . Pre-registration is required for classes, but several openings are still available.

The Bluegrass Quilt Festival is being held at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre, 395 Paroquet Springs Drive in Shepherdsville, KY. Doors will open daily from 9am-6pm, September 26-28, 2013.
