Friday, Aug. 19, is the big night for many Bullitt Countians as the start of the 2011 high school football season.
There will be no football in the county, however, as all three local teams hit the road.
Bullitt Central will be at North Oldham Friday night, with Bullitt East at Doss. North Bullitt plays Saturday in a special event in Campbellsville.
As always, score updates will be available at www.pioneernews.net.
This includes any play-off games, and obviously includes inter-county match-ups such as THE WAR (BC vs. BE), THE CLASH (BE vs. NB) and THE GAME (BC vs. NB).
Bullitt Central and North Bullitt look to a play-off return, with each winning one post-season game last year. Bullitt East is hungry to return as well.
While the fuss begins escalating for football, please don't forget about the other high school sports now in season.
There's golf, with the Bullitt East girls' team hoping to match last season's success.
And volleyball, where Bullitt Central ended East's six-year district champion streak in 2010.
And there's soccer. The North Bullitt boys finished strong last season.
There are plenty of storylines and anticipated match-ups in all of these sports. As usual, Pioneer News sports editor Mike Farner will bring all the necessary coverage to each and every one of them.
If you're a fan of local high school sports, remember that The Pioneer News is the place to get your fix.
We wish the best for all of our local sports teams and athletes in the upcoming year.
