SHEPHERDSVILLE – The three Bullitt County wrestling programs will enter the post-season on Saturday when they compete in the Region 3 Tournament at Iroquois High School.

The action will start at 9 a.m.

The sport seems to be regaining some of its early luster when Bullitt Central was producing a handful of top competitors at the state level. Both North Bullitt and Bullitt East have advanced wrestlers to the state meet in recent years and could again this year.

With 14 teams residing in Region 3 (realignment will drop that number to 12 next season including the movement of regional power Meade County to Region 2), it will be a long-day for the competitors who could wrestle as many as five times.

The top four wrestlers in each of the 14 weight classes will advance to the Kentucky State Wrestling Championships which will be held next week in Lexington at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Bullitt Central and Bullitt East have been very close this season including a tie in last week’s Bullitt County Championships as each won seven matches. The difference being that Bullitt East has been filling every weight class this season while Bullitt Central is short two positions.

Bullitt Central has an 8-8 record this season under first-year head coach James Huffman.

As of early this week, Bullitt Central’s roster for the regional will include: Jonathan Rogers (106), Megail Perkins (126), Jeremy Bosier (132), Ethan Hornack (138), Jeff Saunders (145), Jared Stewart (152), Dix Geiser (160), Zach Anderson (170), Mike Saunders (182), Mark Saunders (195), Eli Thacker (220) and Chris Martin (285).

In last week’s county meet, Bullitt East’s roster for the match against Bullitt Central included: Tyler Prell (106), Alexis Schoenlaub (113), Matthew Brown (120), Felix Grachler (126), Dalton Priddy (132), Tavin Smith (138), Taylor Hardesty (145), Daniel Acosta (152), Davide Dinublia (160), Chris Davis (170), Michael O’Neal (182), Evan Kerr (195), Colin Barnes (220) and Spencer Warren (285).

North Bullitt has also come up short in a few weight classes this season, but the roster for head coach B.J. Ritter last week included: Jordan Matherly (106), Kevin Seebolt (120), Tanner Bishop (126), Kraig Jarrell (145), Katie Irvin (152), Andrew Kastlehun (160), Zackery Sparks (170), James Bacher (182) and Cody Sutherland (195).
