SHEPHERDSVILLE -- An investigation is on-going after a resident of a nursing home was struck on Friday afternoon.

Shepherdsville Police and Bullitt County EMS were called to the scene outside Colonial House Nursing Home, just east of Bullitt Central High School, on Highway 44.

According to Eric Farris, attorney for the Bullitt County Public School System, a maintenance bus with two employees were traveling west.

The employees were returning in a converted special needs bus to the maintenance garage in Shepherdsville.

At around 5 p.m., Farris said the vehicle was passing Colonial House when a resident stepped or leapt in front of the bus.

Farris said the driver attempted to miss the resident but the person was struck.

No information was available on the condition of the resident; however, Farris said, he was told the individual was talking and conscious when taken to the hospital.

While physically OK, Farris said the employees were mentally shaken.

Under standard district policy, the driver underwent testing for any illegal substances.

Farris said the school system would continue to work with the Shepherdsville Police Department on the investigation.

Colonial House is located very close to Highway 44 and residents are typically seen on the porch or walking on the sidewalk.
