SHEPHERDSVILLE - An on-line private sale site is expanding its presence in Bullitt County.
After spending the past two-plus years as a partner in distribution with GSI Commerce, Rue La La is taking over control of an entire warehouse facility in Shepherdsville and looks to expand its footprint.
Steve Davis, president of the Boston-based Rue La La, said the company is excited to take over the entire distribution facility and the 175 employees who joined the family as of April 1.
The company has leased the building through 2016.
'We're excited," said Davis. "We have an awesome team."
Rue La La is an invitation-only membership on-line buying club. You either get an invitation or referral from a friend to join or you can be placed on a waiting list.
Davis said the company specializes in offering premium men's and women's items from national brands at greatly reduced prices.
The trick is that the items are offered on-line at 11 a.m. each morning and will remain available for only 48 hours - or until the items sell out.
There are 5-10 new brands daily added to the website's offerings.
"It's amazing," said Davis. "If you want it, you better get it quick. It's speed shopping at its best."
The method to the buying madness has worked.
With sales growing at a rate of 30 percent the past two years, Davis said, the company had to look at its growth plan to determine its next steps.
The consensus was to remain in Shepherdsville, where it had worked with GSI Commerce, and to lease the entire facility. In the past, GSI Commerce had several customers who utilized portions of the building.
Part of the facility will remain a traditional distribution warehouse.
The other portion would allow an expansion of its world-class production facilities. While currently doing about 10 percent of the production work for marketing on the website, Davis said that number will grow.
In the facility, the company will have professional sets to produce commercials, photo shots and even have stylists on hand.
The number of employees who made the switch from GSI Commerce to Rue La La was 175. Davis expects that number to grow in the future.
"We've adopted them," Davis said of the employees.
When company officials were deciding what route to take in the future, Davis said the great talent already in Bullitt County played a key role in the decision.
"People are our most valuable asset," said Davis.
Another was the ability to grow into the building and still have the access to the UPS hub in Louisville.
"We could not be more excited to be in Shepherdsville," said Davis.
