BROOKS - For all your leaded, beveled, stained and etched glass needs, look no further than Ed Sanders.

In September, Sanders left a glass company in Louisville after 21 years to start his own business in Brooks, where he has lived since 1985.

Brooks Beveled Edges makes and repairs stained glass windows, bevels edges, and offers sandblasting and etching. Sanders does custom designs for windows as well. He gives free estimates in homes and businesses and is open for walk-ins in his shop as well.

For Sanders, glass work and beveling have been longtime passions.

“I’ve always dabbled in art—oils, water colors—and enjoyed it,” Sanders said. “I liked art in school and studied it, but I didn’t learn beveling and staining from school.”

Instead, Sanders found out about the trade through churches, many of which have intricate stained glass windows. He took a few classes and practiced enough to learn the skill.

Today, Sanders runs his company by himself, though he has several other studios in the area he can call if necessary.

“It’s kind of a lost art,” he said. “Older houses in Old Louisville and Shepherdsville have it, and of course most churches, but it’s a speciality business.”

Brooks Beveled Edges is located at 275 Griffis Lane and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Sanders said he is always available via phone (955-9327 for office or 773-3573 for cell) or on his website, www.brooksbevelededges.com.
