SHEPHERDSVILLE - They came to remember a fallen co-worker, friend, mother and wife.
With balloons in hand, youngsters with the Bullitt County Family YMCA child-enrichment program at the main facility gathered with teachers and others on Friday.
They came to remember Misty Cunningham, a child care director who lost her battle with cancer a year ago on July 26.
In her honor, the YMCA planted a tree.
Beth Hall, who coordinated the memorial ceremony, said that everyone who walks by the tree would think of Misty.
Her husband, Scotty, remembered her sweet, pleasant look that greeted him each day.
Her son said she cared for everyone.
Executive director June Daugherty said Misty got upset when her illness prevented her from working with the kids. Still, she would come in weekly to check on them and to make sure everything was going well.
“These kids meant so much to her,” said Daugherty.
Besides the planting of the tree, the child enrichment youngsters wrote messages on balloons. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the youngsters led them fly into the sky.
