SALEM, IN, July 9 – Short-track action takes center stage at Salem Speedway on Sunday afternoon, as four different divisions pay a visit to the quarter-mile infield oval for the Summer Short-Track Showdown.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Pure Stocks and Portland Recycling Front Wheel Drive Stocks, along with the FAST Series Legends Cars and Bandoleros are set to share the track for a full slate of racing action.
Defending series champion Mike Kestler of Louisville stands 11 points (401-390) in front of Travis Rogers of Jeffersonville in their battle for the 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts Pure Stock championship.
With just six points separating the third through sixth place drivers in the current Pure Stock standings anything can happen and no one can be counted out.
The fight for the Portland Recycling Front Wheel Drive title is even tighter, as Dallas Bowman of Clarksville is clinging to a slim three-point advantage (385-382) over Austin Baum of Shepherdsville, Ky. Defending track champion, Bill Grant of Jeffersonville, is just four points back of Baum in third place.
The next two Sunday afternoon short-track races at Salem will greatly impact the 2012 final season standings in both divisions.
Spectator gates open Sunday at 10:30 a.m., with practice getting underway at 11 a.m., qualifications at 12:30 p.m. and the first race at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets are priced at just $8 for adults and $3 for children, age 7-12. Kids, age 6 and under, are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
