PIONEER VILLAGE - She made it for 13 days and nights in a Brazilian jungle, but an hour with preschoolers is a different challenge altogether.

The Maryville Head Start classroom received a special visit from Sandy “Momma K” Burgin, a Louisville bus driver who recently appeared on the CBS reality television show, “Survivor: Tocantins.”

Donna Elden with Head Start said Burgin was one of many local celebrities and community members that visited the school during Child Abuse and Prevention Month.

Political figures, firefighters and police officers visited Maryville, but Burgin was the only national television celebrity to attend.

Elden said Burgin’s visit reflected the hard times families faced surviving in today’s world.

Burgin talked about her experiences in South America, displaying souvenirs from the television show and posing for photographs.

As far as handing the preschoolers, Burgin survived: She’s a 30-year bus driver with two children and two grandchildren.
