Only 16 schools in the commonwealth of Kentucky will be represented in the boys’ PNC Sweet 16 basketball tournament in Lexington’s Rupp Arena next week.
Bullitt County is fortunate to have one of those teams.
The Bullitt East Chargers wrapped up its regular season, the district tournament and the Region 6 battle with a place in the Sweet 16.
Now is time for all the fans to put aside any differences. It is time for Bullitt County fans to come together and support the red and gold in Lexington.
Earning a right to advance to the Sweet 16 is special. It is something that some schools in Kentucky may never have an opportunity to achieve.
For the past few years, Bullitt County schools have played with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after being moved to the Sixth Region. They each bring a lot of fans to the games in Jefferson County but that doesn’t seem to mean much.
Now, at least for the next two years, the Bullitt County schools will be in the Seventh Region.
As Bullitt East advances to the state tournament, now is the time for all the Bullitt County fans to unite. Head up to Lexington and see if the local schools can get a little respect.
We congratulate Coach Troy Barr and his staff and players on a tremendous season. But there is still a lot work to be done.
Go Chargers...bring home the Sweet 16 trophy.
