SHEPHERDSVILLE - It took three months and several tries before the Shepherdsville-Bullitt County Tourist and Convention Commission would select a logo that best represented the county’s hospitality, natural beauty and thriving wine and bourbon industries.
It proved to be time well spent.
The logo, bearing a tree, a bourbon barrel and a cluster of grapes along with the tagline, “It’s in our nature,” recently took first place in the Kentucky Tourism Council’s annual Traverse Awards’ for Specialty Item for Promotion.
The announcement came during the Kentucky Tourism Industry Annual Conference at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky.
Each year the Traverse Awards celebrate excellence in tourism marketing, awarding the most distinctive entries.
A panel of out-of-state experts judged over 240 entries from across the state for this year’s awards.
The logo was designed through collaboration between Louisville marketing firm The Vimarc Group and Shepherdsville-Bullitt County Tourist and Convention Commission Executive Director Troy Beam.
The goal was to create better visibility and awareness of tourism opportunities in Shepherdsville and Bullitt County.
“I like the tag line,” Beam said. “I wanted something that told a story of where all this stuff comes from; the bourbon and wine and natural beauty we have. Vimarc nailed it. I think it represents Bullitt County because these things are in our nature. I also think it shows that we’re very hospitable.”
Beam said the said the previous logo, which featured a multi-colored tree, highlighted only a small part of what the county had to offer.
“We’re a lot more than that, especially with the Jim Beam expansion and all the wineries popping up all over the county,” he said. “I think those are the things that will get us recognized nationally.”
