Transportation Cabinet update on train derailment site

   WEST POINT - After a briefing with Unified Command regarding the transload of the derailed cars the following information is available: 

The plan for transload of the hydrogen fluoride and butadiene rail tank cars has been approved and will begin on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 6 a.m.  In abundance of caution and the placement of equipment necessary to stage at the site promotes the closure of Dixie Highway from Highway 44 to the Bridge at Salt River from Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 6 a.m. until further notice.

There are no recommeded evacuations or shelter-in-place orders at this time.  Depending on prevailing winds at the time of transload the community should be prepared to shelter-in-place or evacuate upon command if necessary.  Air restrictions may go into effect at the start of this operation as well.

Paducah and Louisville Railroad continues to have two outreach centers open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday by apppointment, for making and following up on claims.  First time mileage reimbursement claims only: VFW Post 1181, 6518 Blevins Gap Road, Louisville, KY 40272 and all other claims:  Music Ranch USA building, 409 South Street, West Point, KY 40177.

After speaking with the Federal Railroad Administration they advise investigation is still ongoing and are unable to comment any further. 

EMA has had no updates from University of Louisville on the injured workers progress.
