MOUNT WASHINGTON - Midway through the high school track season and three Bullitt County athletes in four events stand atop their events in Class AA according to the Kentucky Track and Cross-Country Association rankings from April 20.
Bullitt East senior Jackie Stevens, the defending Class AA State Champion in both the discus and shot put is way out in front in her two events.
Stevens’ best throw this season of 119-2 in the discus is 16-feet further than any other athlete in the class. It is pretty much the same story in the shot put where Stevens’ top effort of 41-9 is eight-feet further than her nearest competitor.
North Bullitt eighth-grader Chelsea Slayton, who attends Zoneton Middle School, is the top-ranked runner at 800-meters in Class AA. Slayton has a best time of 2:26.59 which is just barely ahead of Fairdale freshman Tia Weston in 2:27.34.
The other top-ranked Bullitt County athlete is Bullitt East sophomore Trevor Troutman in the discus. Troutman has a best this season of 155-3 which is ten-feet further than anyone else in the state.
KYTrackXC.com sets up a possible state meet based on the best efforts of the season for all athletes. In the Kentucky State Championships, the top eight finishers score points. Based on that, the other Bullitt County athletes who rank in the top eight in the state include:
**North Bullitt senior Meri Brian is ranked fourth in the long jump at 16-0. Brian’s 400-meter relay team is ranked fourth.
**Bullitt East sophomore Jacob Duvall is ranked eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.14.
**Bullitt East junior Lynsey Milburn is ranked eighth in the state in the triple jump at 32-2.
It is still early in the season. Each event will have 24 competitors in the state meet so there is a lot that can still happen for a number of local athletes who are ranked just out of the top eight in each event.
