CLERMONT - Two Casey County men were killed in an early morning accident on Interstate 65.
According to Deputy Sheriff Carl Trent, a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Jackie R. Luttrell, 29, of Windsor, Ky., was going southbound.
Just south of the Highway 245 overpass, Luttrell’s vehicle struck the back of a flat-bed tractor trailer carrying construction equipment.
Luttrell was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Morris Proffitt.
Also pronounced dead at the scene was Elijah Akau, 27, of Liberty, Ky. He was in the rear seat behind the driver.
Injured in the accident was Bradley Luttrell, 26. He was riding in the passenger seat.
Trent said he was transported by Bullitt County EMS to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The truck driver was not injured and no other vehicles were involved.
Trent said none of the occupants appeared to be wearing seat belts. There were also no signs of braking.
The accident occurred at about 2:18 a.m. on Saturday.
It is the second fatal accident in the same location since road construction started in June.
Trent said drivers all along Interstate 65 need to be cautious as traffic can suddenly come to a start.
Assisting the sheriff’s department in the accident were Southeast Bullitt Fire Department, Shepherdsville Police and Bullitt County EMS.
