The Alternative Adult Day Health Care Center in Hillview got into the Independence Day spirit early this year with a pre-holiday parade.
Members dressed up in patriotic and Americana costumes, walking and rolling along with waves and smiles for everyone. Each member picked out their own costume.
Administrator Leah Smith said all-American foods such as hot dogs and apple pie were served for lunch to get everyone in a festive mood. Beach ball volleyball and Washers were among the outdoor recreational games following the parade.
“We did some things we don’t normally get to do,” Smith said.
The parade and party were planned by activities coordinator Sandy Lanham.
Alternative Adult Day Health Care Center is the only privately owned and operated adult day care providers in Bullitt County and one of a few in Kentucky. A second facility in Mount Washington may open by year’s end.
The center now accepts veterans through a state fund as of July 1. Smith said the center is the fourth facility in Kentucky to implement the fund since its inception last year.
“Veterans can now come here for free,” said Smith. “Two veterans started already. One had been here before but now is on the veterans fund.”
