PIONEER VILLAGE - A woman has admitted to Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress that she killed her husband last June.
Shelley Denise Abell, 50, was in Bullitt Circuit Court on Tuesday and accepted a plea agreement that would send her to prison for the next 17 years.
Abell admitted killing her husband, Rodney Abell, 55, in their Pioneer Village home on June 24, 2010.
She stabbed her husband with an 8-inch fish boning knife. He died at the scene.
John Cottrell, then a member of the Pioneer Village Police Department, was told when Abell called 911 that she saw four intruders.
A male intruder was said to have stabbed her husband shortly after midnight. However, Cottrell said after a short period of time, it was determined that it was the wife who killed her husband.
On Tuesday, Abell cried as she apologized to the victim’s family.
She accepted a manslaughter plea, which would carry a 12-year sentence, and possession of a controlled substance, which would be another five years.
