Young people do good work

I wanted to write this letter to acknowledge how good some of our young people are. I have been working with Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at Bullitt Central High School as a volunteer.

I am on the Board of most of the farm organizations in Bullitt County. We had our annual Farm Bureau awards dinner on September 21, 2013. We had a public speaking competition. Mr. Matthew Terry, FFA reporter, won first place in the men’s public speaking competition. He also does an excellent job as reporter. We have an outstanding group of young people in FFA who are very involved in agriculture.

I think their Ag teachers, Mrs. Tiphanie Peake and Mr. Michael Peake, are doing an excellent job of teaching them everything from working on lawn mowers, hatching and raising chickens, to growing tomatoes to sell.

The Farm Bureau chose Mrs. Penny Terry, mom of Megan and Matthew, for an agriculture literacy award for promoting agriculture in her classroom. She teaches at Cedar Grove Elementary School.

I would also like to welcome Mr. Dustin Gosser to Bullitt East High School as the new Ag teacher. He is starting a new FFA program there.

I am very proud of the FFA members and happy to see how they share their knowledge about agriculture with other young people.
