  • AARP salute to Veterans continues to grow annually

     The Mt. Washington AARP fundraiser was no stranger to generosity this year. The annual Veteran’s Day dinner had to be moved from the Senior Center to Paroquet Springs Conference Centre in Shepherdsville this year due to high attendance in the previous years.

    President Vivian Adams said they have been “overwhelmed” with donations.

    Currently the amount raised is about $7,200 with more coming in.

  • Convenience store to again give back by offering free Thanksgiving dinner

     HILLVIEW - The Guru Market Spirit Gas Station in Hillview knows how to dish out the Thanksgiving holiday spirit.

    Employees and their family members will prepare free meals for the store’s third annual Thanksgiving dinner event.

    Owner Ishwar Patel said the store, known for its Broaster chicken, will offer a complete meal with broasted turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and a roll.

    Guru Market distributed about 700 free meals last year. They are preparing to serve up to 900 this year.

  • SAFETY DAY

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - Fall Break for Bullitt County Public Schools did not deter the Shepherdsville Fire Department from teaching safety techniques.

    SFD hosted a fire safety and rescue demo at the Shepherdsville Government Center.

    Firefighters hosted demonstrations involving water rescues, ladder saves and home safety tips for families, as well as kid-friendly, hands-on fire rescue activities.

    Children visited a fire safety van to learn how to retreat a smoking home safely. The van was implemented courtesy of Mt. Washington Fire.

  • Holiday event kicks off season in Hillview

     HILLVIEW -- He’s making a list, checking it twice. Gonna to find out who’s naughty or nice. Santa Claus will be coming to town very soon.

    Traditionally, each of the major municipalities host holiday events.

    That will again be the case this year, starting with the Hillview Winterfest celebration this Saturday night.

     

    Shepherdsville

    After hosting a Christmas parade to lead into its light up ceremony, Shepherdsville will see a major plan of attack this holiday season.

  • Honoring Our Veterans

     LTC David Walker was the special speaker at the annual North Bullitt JRTOC Veterans Day assembly.

    Cadets demonstrated the proper way to fold the American flag.

    WWII veteran Charles Howlett and VFW Post 5710 commander Danny Morrison were both in attendance for the ceremony.

  • Veterans honored at Roby

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - Roby Elementary annually salutes retired and active military with a special Veterans Day presentation.

    This year’s ceremony included a Presentation of Colors by the Bullitt Central JROTC, along with a performance of “The National Anthem” by the Bullitt Central band.

    Students performed patriotic songs and read personal essays on the importance of Veterans Day and why it was celebrated.

  • Question and answer session with Mayim Bialik

     Highlights from a question-and-answer Skype session featuring the North Bullitt High School AP Calculus class and actress Mayim Bialik, who plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the CBS comedy television series, "The Big Bang Theory."

    Bialik selected North Bullitt's selfie image over 635 other entries as the winner of the Texas Instruments "Express Your Selfie" contest, with the school receiving new technologies.

  • North Bullitt 'selfie' selected best in country

     HEBRON ESTATES - When Bullitt County hears a big bang, it usually comes from Fort Knox.

    But the 'big bang' Tuesday came from North Bullitt High School, where students express themselves very well.

    The school's AP Calculus class, taught by former NB student Christy Bickett, won the "Express Your Selfie" contest presented by Texas Instruments (TI) and judged by actress Mayim Bialik, who plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on television's top comedy, "The Big Bang Theory."

  • THINK PINK: Gathering part education, part inspirational

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - Men and women gathered at the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre for a night of “celebration and education.”

    This was the third year for Think Pink‚ sponsored by the Bullitt County Health Department, Bullitt County Breast Cancer Support Group, Kentucky Cancer Program and Cooperative Extension Office.

    Guests had a chance to chat, visit booths and sample some appetizers before listening to speakers.

  • MW AARP to host Veterans Day celebration event

     The Mount Washington AARP Chapter 4613 will host a Veterans Day Fund-raiser on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    This “red carpet” evening will begin with a Veterans Day tribute at 6 p.m. with the National Anthem. After dinner, the evening will continue with John Wigginton and Allen Peavler providing musical entertainment and live and silent auctions.
