  • Bernheim all abuzz with workshop set for beekeeping

     CLERMONT - Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest will host a buzz worthy program. this weekend.

    Bee Curious: An Afternoon with Phil Craft will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, 1 – 4 p.m. at the Bernheim Education Center.

    Whether you’re curious about becoming a beekeeper or just interested in learning more about one of nature’s most fascinating creatures, this session offered by Phil Craft is sure to enlighten. 

    Craft will cover the basics of getting started as a beekeeper, as well as honeybee biology.

  • Luncheon pumps awareness into heart disease

     SHEPHERDSVILLE - Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Kentuckians, far ahead of cancer.

    "Our goal is to increase awareness of heart disease," said Liz McGuire, Bullitt County Health Department education coordinator. "It affects everyone. We want to promote facts and healthy lifestyles."

    The Health Department features life-changing information and tips, along with a good time, during its annual Healthy Hearts Wear Red Luncheon at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

  • Rockin' for a Cause

     A large crowd turned out Friday night at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    The fund-raiser was to help relocate the Bowman Valley School, a one-room schoolhouse for African American students. It has been donated to preservation but money is needed to move it to a safer location next to the Woodsdale Schoolhouse next  to the Board of Education office.

    Todd Bodenheimer presented his tribute to Elvis as the main entertainment.

  • College and Career Ready

     The first annual College and Career Fair was hosted at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre, hosted by the Bullitt County Public Schools’ Family Resource and Youth Service Centers.

    Local businesses and colleges attended to offer information to prospective workers and students.

    Childcare was provided at the event courtesy of Head Start, OVEC and the Bullitt County Public Libraries.

    The College and Career Fair was also sponsored by Head Start and Kentuckiana Works.

     Students from Mount Washington Elementary sang Christmas carols during the annual Light Up celebration on Friday.

    Carter and Jamie Lemanski and others enjoyed the exotic petting zoo.

    And Santa was there for pictures at the event.
