  • Walk with Doc Saturday

     CLERMONT - There’s more than one way to make a healthy walk even healthier.

    KentuckyOne Health and the Bullitt County Health Department joined forces with the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest to present its first in a series of monthly Walk with a Doc events.

    Dr. Joseph Oropilla was the first scheduled doctor, enjoying the Nursery Loop while discussion neurology and other health topics with the 40 people in attendance. Oropilla even diagnosed a dog who attended the walk.

  • Welcome to Bullitt County

     Some of Bullitt County’s best was on display for travelers stopping at the Interstate 65 Welcome Center.

    Bullitt County Tourism Day, coinciding with National Travel and Tourism Week (May 1-7), was hosted at the Interstate 65 Welcome Center May 5.

    Hosted by Bullitt County Tourism, the event featured informational booths by such locations as Bernheim Forest and Forest Edge Winery as well as works on display courtesy of the local Basket Guild and Quilting Bees.

  • Lines are long to get shot at having some fun at new skate park in honor of Prescott in MW

     MOUNT WASHINGTON — The day was a long one coming, but the skate park honoring Prescott Lee Goodman is finally open.

    Family, friends, coworkers, council members and community members filled the Mount Washington City Park last Tuesday for the chance to witness the official opening of the facility.

  • Political forum May 5 for primary

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- It’s not the main event but rather a preliminary race to set up the battle in the fall general election.

    While many may not realize it, there will be a few races on the May 17 primary election ballot.

    To let the voters get a sense of where the candidates stand on the issues, the Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce and The Pioneer News will host a special forum on Thursday, May 5.

    The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Bullitt Central High School.

  • Dumpsters will be in full supply as second junk day set for Saturday

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, Larry Hatfield knew he was in trouble.

    With cars and trucks lined up at Bullitt East High to drop off items for the county’s junk disposal day, Hatfield knew there was a problem.

    The dumpters on the site were full and there was a whole lot of junk left in line.

    With the dumpsters on a rotation and with another one not due immediately, Hatfield started to have haulers dump items on the ground next to the dumpsters.

  • Skate Park Honoring Prescott to open

     MOUNT WASHINGTON—The day before her 15-year-old son died in June 2012, Chrystal Goodman O’Bryan and her family passed by the skate park in Paoli, Indiana.

    “He wanted to stop,” she said. “We were on a family day trip and we were running behind. I wouldn’t stop. He just wanted to check it out and he didn’t understand why a small town like that had one and we didn’t.”

    The next night, Prescott Lee Goodman was hit while riding his bike on Bardstown Road across from Kroger.

     The Lincoln Heritage Boy Scout organization held its annual fund-raising dinner at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

    Organizers were John Snider, Jose Cubero and Gary McGruder.

    John Asher of Churchill Downs was the guest speaker.

    This is a major fund-raiser each year for the Boy Scouts.

  • GOOD SPIRITS: Conference hopes to take away stress in your life

     SHEPHERDSVILLE— In the fast-paced, high stress world so many people live in, trying to find a way to slow down and relax is often difficult.

    But, Bullitt County recently hosted an event that was all about finding a more peaceful life.

    The Festival of Healing and Spiritual Awareness served as chance for people to gain a spiritual recharge, said organizer Virginia Gilpin.

    “This is a place where we learn how to stop and breathe,” she said. “Then we have to go back out there.”

  • CIRCUS

     CLERMONT - It’s the greatest show on earth, or in this case, of the earth.

    Cirque Mundial (or Worldwide Circus) made its first visit to the area, featuring amazing talent from around the world.

    The traveling troupe featured four shows at the Bullitt County Fairgrounds.

    Some of the traditional circus acts were included, from trapeze artists and jugglers to Woo Woo the Clown.

    Other unusual acts included unicycle riding, cylindric balancing acts and poodle acrobatics.

  • Bullitt Central greenhouse class set to open facility for business

     Bullitt Central High School students in the greenhouse classes are learning business and agriculture principles while getting their hands dirty.

    Students in these classes learn how to operate a greenhouse business, fill the greenhouse with products and then sell the products. Students work together to complete every job in the greenhouse, while building teamwork skills.

    Everything in the Green Paw Greenhouse is “Kentucky Proud” and “Bullitt Central Proud.”
