  • HOPE for a good Thanksgiving meal

     The Helping Out People Everywhere (HOPE) in Bullitt County organization hosted its first annual community Thanksgiving meal at the Bullitt Masonic Lodge in Shepherdsville.

    The event was designed to help feed less fortunate area residents, but all were invited to join in. Over 200 meals were distributed by more than 40 HOPE volunteers, with all of the food donated to the group.

  • Two cities plan to light up holiday season this weekend

     SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Two cities will be bringing in the holiday season on Friday evening.

    Mount Washington will continue to have its traditional light up ceremony, while the city of Shepherdsville will make a few changes to its holiday schedule.

    In years past, the city park on First Street has been the focal point of the holiday celebration.

  • Winterfest in Hillview

     There was a little bit of everything at the recent Hillview Winterfest program.

    Of course, Santa made his appearance and talked with all the boys and girls.

    But the overflow crowd at the Hillview Government Center also got a presentation by Jeff Armstrong of Animal Tales. He brought his red kangaroo and talked with the crowd.

    There was plenty of food, arts and crafts and displays from emergency services, such as the Zoneton Fire Department.

  • Halloween Fun

     It was a standing room only crowd that came to the seventh annual Halloween Bash at Elmcroft Mount Washington. There was a haunted house, a chili cook-off, costume contest, face painting, games and lots of candy.

  • Local Boy Scouts to collect Scouting for Food donations November 21

     Every year Scouts from all over the country participate in Scouting for Food to feed the hungry and collectively gather around 2 million food items. Last year the Lincoln Heritage Council, BSA Scouting family collected 350,000 pounds of food for the needy. Saturday, November 21 is collection day for Scouting for Food. The LHC intends to top last year's result.

  • Groundbreaking Dec. 4 for MW branch library

     MOUNT WASHINGTON -- To celebrate the start of construction for the new 12,700-square-foot Mt. Washington Branch Library, a groundbreaking event will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the site of the new facility, located at 214 N. Bardstown Road. 

  • Hillvew hosts Winterfest this Saturday

     HILLVIEW - In the city that boasts one of the longest-standing Christmastime traditions with the Operation Santa program, another event is becoming Bullitt County’s kickoff to the holiday season.

    The city of Hillview will host its ninth annual Winterfest on Saturday, Nov. 21, 4-7 p.m., at the Hillview Government Center, sponsored by the city’s recreation department.

    The free event is designed to get the community officially into the holiday spirit.

  • Lions Speaker

     Attorney Emily Monarch of Elder Law Solutions, spoke to the Shepherdsville Lions Club and visitors on Nov. 10.

    She gave an informative and entertaining presentation about options for all of us when our loved ones reach the elder years.

    Elder Law Solutions is located at 4815 N. Preston Highway.

  • Special salute by Legion Post 157

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - The American Legion Post 157 in Shepherdsville presented a special Veterans Day tribute to honor all veterans.

    Chaplain J.R. Lewis presented the POW/MIA table setting, ceremoniously honoring prisoners of war and missing comrades. The Bullitt County Sheriffs Explorers presented the Colors.

    Post commander Dirk “Mac” McCoy made a special presentation to Marilyn Ogle and her husband, veteran Danny Ogle, with  a plaque representing the military medals and honors earned by Marilyn’s father, Allen Brock Jr.

  • Saluting Our Veterans - LJ Parade

     The VFW Post in Lebanon Junction hosted a parade and ceremony on Saturday to salute the veterans.

    A large crowd came out to listen to guest speakers after a parade went through the downtown area.

    A luncheon followed the ceremony.
