Proud family and friends gathered for the unveiling of the 2015 Very Important Partner (VIP) Youth Poster Campaign at Bullitt Central High School’s College and Career Center gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 24th, 2015.
The official unveiling was co-sponsored by Bullitt County Partners in Prevention.
The youth poster campaign recognizes individuals who model a drug-free life. The youths are nominated, required to write an essay, go through an interview and vetting process, and then chosen for their example of drug-free choices.
On Sept. 11, 2015, Thomas Waller was inducted into the Valley High School Hall of Fame.
On the morning of the induction, Waller joined the other inductees. They had the opportunity to speak to the current students at Valley High School. They talked about how the school had an impact on their lives.
All inductees were then honored at a luncheon brunch on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Each inductee received a plaque and there will also be a plaque displayed at the entrance hall at Valley.
District Gifted and Talented Coordinator Sarah Coomer has been named a Director of the Kentucky Association of Gifted Education Advisory Board.
She will join 19 state and University colleagues to participate in KAGE Board meetings held quarterly to serve as an advocate and liaison for children and young people with gifts and talents within their district and across the state.
“Totally shocked and very humbled,” she said. “This is really an honor.”
HILLVIEW - At the Alternative Adult Day Center, Carl Hartstern is a hero even without his Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
The regular attendee at the center celebrated his 100th birthday with a special party hosted in his honor.
Hartstern was presented with his own cake, complete with 100 candles. State Rep. Linda Belcher honored him with a Kentucky Colonel proclamation by Gov. Steve Beshear, while Bullitt County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts officially declared Sept. 19 as Carl Hartstern Day.
MOUNT WASHINGTON -- When Pleasant Grove Elementary principal Melissa Whicker felt tightness in her chest as she walked across the parking lot in May, she assumed she had pulled a muscle coughing during a recent sinus infection.
When she had the doctor’s check for her on Friday, they gave her the all clear.
It wasn’t until she was watching TV with her husband and son Saturday night that she realized what was going on.
