Working with Head Start students at Maryville Elementary School has been a joy for both Amber Wells and the youth.
“I love being around the kids and seeing them make progress,” she said as student after student approached to show her a classroom object. “This is where I want to be now.”
Wells zipped through an intensive program in only two months during the summer of 2014 to earn a Child Development Associate certification. The process was new for those desiring to work in a Head Start setting.
The Bullitt County Genealogical Society held its December 2014 meeting and luncheon at Ridgway Memorial Library as a roast for the Bullitt County History Museum director who stepped down as of Oct. 31.
The dinner was hosted by History Museum volunteer Daniel Buxton, with guest speakers including Joe Hardesty with the Louisville Free Public Library, Stephen Thomas from The Pioneer News, and Strange's wife, Bonnie.
LOUISVILLE - A Bullitt County seventh grader, Lilly Mooney, was among the 12 students selected from across the state to display their agriculture science projects at last week’s Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) annual meeting in Louisville.
Mooney, a homeschooled student, displayed her science project as part of the KFB annual meeting’s tradeshow.
Her project, called “One Potato, Two Potato,” explored the nutritional value and versatility of potatoes.
SHEPHERDSVILLE - The 88th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade will have everything you want to see: Floats, balloons, clowns, celebrities, Broadway performances and a marching band with a Bullitt County high school student.
Bullitt Central senior band and marching band member Sarah Schaaf will perform with 185 high school musicians and 40 dancers in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band during the parade.
SHEPHERDSVILLE -- One little girl will be following in her mother’s footsteps this holiday season.
Nine-year-old Evelyn Flaherty, the daughter of Robert and DeeAnn Flaherty, was recently crowned Miss American Crossroads Sweetheart and will be competing in the National Miss American Coed Pageant in Florida next week.
Evelyn’s mother, DeeAnn, said her daughter became interested in pageants after watching some old videos of her competitions about five years ago.
