BALTI, Moldova - Laela Kashan originally attended law school because she wanted to help others.
The Hillview resident, a graduate of Hebron Middle and North Bullitt High School, attended Northern Kentucky University's Chase Law School, passing the Kentucky Bar Exam in October 2008.
It was in law school that Kashan discovered a more profound way to serve others.
"I had been thinking about Peace Corps during law school," she said. "The way they sell it seemed like something I wanted to get into."

LEXINGTON, KY – Overdale Elementary School parent, Jennifer Toll of Shepherdsville, was one of 30 parents from across Kentucky who graduated from the Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
An initiative of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, this program is designed and implemented in partnership with the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science and The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University.
Michael Dooley was honored by the members of the Bullitt County Fire Chiefs’ Association for his long-time work as a member of the Mount Washington Fire Department.
Dooley was most recently chief of the department. His contract expired at the end of December 2011.
Dooley received a trumpet from the association and he also received some kind comments from his former associates.
Dooley thanked everyone and wished his successor luck.
