  • SHEPHERDSVILLE - The county’s most historic grave is receiving some tender love and care after local developers accidentally tore the grave’s wrought-iron fence down last fall.

    The site, better known as The Lone Grave, is located in a wooded area behind The Best Western near Lakeview Garden Apartments.

    The grave’s fence was torn down by a crew of workers hired by landowner Ronnie Ables. Ables said he wasn’t aware that the grave existed and didn’t purposely destroy the site.

  • HEBRON ESTATES – The North Bullitt JROTC took first place overall in the Platoon IDR event during the first annual two-day Drill Meet and Raider Challenge Brigade Championships in Frankfort.

    The event featured 29 schools from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.

    During the Raider Challenge North Bullitt earned a second place in the Obstacle Course event, along with a third in both the One Rope Bridge and the Mystery events.

  • SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Cougar Corps drill team placed fifth overall out of 26 teams competing in the 7th Brigade Drill Championships at North Hardin High School.

    The Exhibition Platoon earned top honors under Cadet Lieutenant Brandon Ross. Another squad led by Cody Hawkins took third place.

    Chris Hogue and Dustin Skeeters earned second place in the Exhibition Duels competition.

    Scotty Thompson earned 13th place overall in the unarmed “Knockout” competition, which included a field of more than 800 cadets.

  • SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt Central Concert Choir recently showed their talents by representing music both they and their parents idolize.

    This year’s spring concert theme was “Cougar Idol,” a play on the popular reality television series, “American Idol.”

    Students performed songs from the ‘80s and ‘90s, featuring country, rock and popular music.

    The Bullitt Central Concert Choir is led by music instructor Amy Parker-Cuenca.

  • SHEPHERDSVILLE - Native Americans are proud of their heritage.

    And Linda Dishon is proud of the resurgence of the Red Crow Indian Council’s annual Pow Wow.

    For the sixth straight year, the intertribal pow wow will be held at the First Street Park in Shepherdsville. The Spirit of the Eagle will be on Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7.

    “It’s a beautiful place,” Dishon said of the park. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

  • Get Pugged!  Pugpalooza is coming to town.  Pugs are party animals and they love a good time.  No one enjoys food, fun, and hanging out with new friends like a pug and that is what Pugpalooza is all about.

     

  • HEBRON ESTATES – North Bullitt Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Olivia Farris thinks it’s a shame that more kids don’t grow up learning that cooking is not only fun, but a great learning experience.

    That’s why she is hosting her first-ever cooking camp that caters to kids ages 7 to 15.

    The camp will be fun for kids but parents can be assured that participants will be learning about healthy eating, cooking safety and even math skills.

  • SHEPHERDSVILLE - Mount Washington resident Thrissie Dohn traveled the longest road to the Bullitt County Partners in Prevention community meth forum.

    Dohn was one of the event’s headline speakers along with Bullitt County Drug Task Force director Kenny Hardin.

    Along with Hardin’s experience and expertise in meth production and its effects, Dohn featured a first-hand view of the meth lifestyle and how it controlled her life for several years.

  • SHEPHERDSVILLE - An United States Army AH-64D Apache helicopter made an appearance at Shepherdsville Elementary Friday morning.

    The helicopter, stationed at Ft. Knox, arrived at 9:45 a.m., delighting Shepherdsville students and causing concerned looks by Bullitt Lick Middle School faculty and surrounding neighbors.

    Shepherdsville principal David Pate said the helicopter visit was kept low-key due to impending weather problems.

  • MOUNT WASHINGTON -- The Creative Young Builders of Robotic Gadgets are at it again -- building robots and creating plans to help save the earth.

    This weekend the CYBORGs will travel to Wright-Patterson Air Force Bace in Ohio to compete in the FIRST LEGO League United States Open Championship.
