  •  SHEPHERDSVILLE - From humble beginnings a Catholic parish began, and in humble transitional times it looks to continue further.

  •  This year at the Kentucky State Fair, John Marsolek Jr. won first place and a blue ribbon in the Junior Culinary division. 

    The 13-year-old made a Snoopy cake for his dog-theme entry. 

    He also won a third-place ribbon during the Bullitt County Fair for the Chocolate dessert contest. The previous year, he placed second. 

    This was not the first time John won at the Kentucky State Fair. In 2010, his "star" themed cake won a blue ribbon for cake decorating. 

  •  HILLVIEW - North Bullitt Christian Church is hosting a weekly club for area youth to enjoy themselves while learning more about faith and service.

    The AWANA Club (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) was designed to host games and activities while learning God's word through verse memorization.

    Norht Bulltt Christian youth director Ray Wiseman hosts the weekly events held every Wednesday during church night.

    Children are divided into three age groups including Cubbies (pre-schoolers), Sparks (grades K-2) and Truth and Training (grades 3-5).

  •  CLERMONT - John Beckner has carved a name for himself at the Kentucky State Fair.

  •  HILLVIEW - Dozens gathered at Young and Robards Farm in northern Bullitt County for a day of special events for the Young Farmer's brand new fundraising effort. 

    The day began with an appreciation breakfast for politicians. Special guests included U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, State Rep. Linda Belcher, Bullitt Circuit Clerk Layne Abell and Bullitt Deputy Judge/Executive Lisa Craddock.

    Following the breakfast, guests took a tour of the 400-acre farm, which produces corn, wheat, soybean and cattle. 

  •   The Ninth annual Bluegrass 101 Bluegrass Festival was held last Saturday at the Bullitt County Fairgrounds.

    The host group, Bluegrass 101, was busy playing tunes early on Saturday afternoon.

    Mary and Eric Day from Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, attended the festival.

  •  The Overdale Elementary community began a Box Tops drive in support of Henryville immediately following the April tornado.

  •   SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt County Diabetes Coalition (BCDC) and the Bullitt County Extension  Service have joined hands in the fight against diabetes. 

  •  SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt County Genealogical Society recently hosted its third annual Family Fair at the Ridgway Memorial Library, where local residents had the chance to share their family histories and fellowship with other genealogy enthusiasts.

  •  SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bart Padgett is your garden variety Kentucky State Fair blue ribbon winner. Literally.

    Padgett received five ribbons from this year's state fair competitions for entries grown in his Shepherdsville home garden.

    A Rineyville native, Padgett grew up on a farm, the son of farming parents Joe and Margo. He moved to Shepherdsville in 2006 when he married his wife, Katina, a Bullitt County native.
