  • BCHS, Roby get traffic control on regular basis

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - Over the years, the Shepherdsville Police Department has had traffic control officers working at Roby Elementary School.

    But, at times, the police officer was called away due to emergencies in other parts of the city.

    Now, the city is experimenting with having a person devoted to providing traffic control for not only Roby Elementary but also Bullitt Central High.

    Neal Cunningham, who most recently worked as a court bailiff at the judicial center for the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department, was introduced to the city council.

  • Math is Dino-mite at Old Mill

    Old Mill Elementary School recently hosted a Dino-mite Math Night to encourage parents and their children to play fun games that enhance math skills. Parents and kids learned the games side by side, in hopes they would continue to play them at home.

  • Amber Martin to be in concert at MW center

    MOUNT WASHINGTON - A local vocalist is using a bit of her talent to benefit the Mount Washington senior citizens this month.

    Country and gospel singer Amber Martin, of Mount Washington, is performing a special concert April 25 at the Ralph Lutes Senior Center on Delania Drive.

    Money raised will benefit the center and programs it offers to seniors throughout the community.

  • Board member donates pay back as way to giving back to public schools

    HEBRON ESTATES – Lorraine McLaughlin has volunteered in schools for a number of years.

    One of the things that always concerned McLaughlin was when she heard that teachers often had to buy supplies out of their own pockets for the classroom.

    When she was elected to the Bullitt County Public School Board and took office in January, McLaughlin said she felt there was a way she could help those in her First District.

    School board members are paid $75 per meeting, which is normally once a month.

  • CASA, Chamber of Commerce find new home on S. Buckman

    SHEPHERDSVILLE – The Bullitt County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program needed more office space, with more privacy, while remaining close to the courthouse.

    The Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce was also looking for a new home.

    Both organizations got their wish and became neighbors in the process.

    The former Conway and Lemme law offices, located at 279 S.Buckman Street in Shepherdsville, have become the new Chamber and CASA headquarters.

    The building sits between Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church and Hardy/Close Funeral Home.

  • Singing for a special cause

    The judges watched and listened as a number of contestants took the stage Saturday for a karaoke competition with winners being the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

    PBI Bank hosted this second annual fund-raiser.

    The Bullitt County Relay for Life is scheduled to take place Friday, May 15, at North Bullitt High School.

  • Senior Prom

    HILLVIEW – Alternative Adult Day Health Care Center members enjoyed a special senior prom dance combined with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

    The special guests for the party included 18 members from the University of Louisville Sigma Kappa sorority.

    Sigma Kappa recognizes the National Alzheimer’s Association as one of its organization’s philanthropies. U of L Sigma Kappa foundations chair Maggie Varner said the national sorority was one of the biggest donors to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

  • Troy Beam earns travel marketing certification

    ATLANTA -- Troy Beam has earned certification as a “Travel Marketing Professional” (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College.

    Beam was one of 57 new TMPs recognized at the STS spring meeting in Montgomery, Ala. The STS Marketing College started in 992, and 473 people have earned TMP certification.

    He is group sales manager for the Shepherdsville-Bullitt County Tourism and Convention Commission.

  • Next chapter turning for new LJ library

    LEBANON JUNCTION ee" For two years, the Lebanon Junction branch of the Bullitt County Public Library system has been forced to host a children’s summer reading program in the community center instead of at the library because of overcrowding.

    To BCPL Director Randy Matlow, the program’s popularity was encouraging, but counterproductive when the children couldn’t fit into Lebanon Junction’s small library for the event.

    “The whole point of the summer reading program is to encourage children to check out books,” Matlow said.

  • New sheriff's DARE car out on road to help teach big lesson

    SHEPHERDSVILLE - When it comes to the war against drug abuse, the Bullitt County Sheriffs dare to do more.

    That includes the force’s newest vehicle, the DARE patrol unit.

    A 1998 Ford already in the Sheriffs department’s custody, the unit was revamped into a prime vehicle with a new paint job, body work and accessories.

    The best thing about the new vehicle was the price. Chief deputy Danny Thompson said all the work was donated.
