Friends and family gathered recently to honor a special person.

Former teacher Iona Adams taught first grade and kindergarten at Mount Washington Elementary for 31 years before recently passing this October from cancer.

In her memory, they have planted a redbud tree in the arboretum with a plaque that reads: “You shaped many minds in our community ‘I’m so glad we had this time together.’”

Adams was an avid nature-lover.

Some of Iona’s family attended the ceremony.
